Habagat Causes Persistent Rainfall Warnings Across Northern Luzon

PAGASA issued a heavy rainfall warning at 5:00 AM on August 30, 2026, placing several provinces in Northern Luzon under orange and yellow alerts due to the active Southwest Monsoon. It warned that continuous rains threaten to trigger immediate flooding and landslides in low-lying and mountainous areas.
Under this regional advisory, La Union is currently under a yellow rainfall warning. Neighboring provinces of Ilocos Sur, Ilocos Norte, and parts of Nueva Vizcaya share this moderate warning level. Meanwhile, a more severe orange warning covers Pangasinan and Benguet, where flooding and landslides are actively threatening communities.
Local maritime and coastal conditions in the province are also affected by the monsoon. La Union will experience moderate to strong southwest winds, leading to moderate to rough coastal waters with wave heights making sea travel risky for small vessels. Temperatures in the province are expected to hover between 24°C and 29°C amid the persistent rains.
The weather bureau listed the specific alert levels and affected areas across the region:
- Orange Warning (Flooding/Landslides Threatening): Pangasinan and Benguet.
- Yellow Warning (Possible Flooding/Landslides): La Union, Ilocos Sur, Ilocos Norte, and portions of Nueva Vizcaya.
- Light to Heavy Rains (Next 2 to 3 Hours): Batanes, Cagayan, and Isabela.
Disaster response officials and residents along mountain slopes are advised to monitor updates and prepare for potential mudslides or flash floods.
