Persistent Rains Across Northern Luzon Due to Habagat

La Union residents advised to monitor weather as Habagat triggers widespread rainfall

PAGASA issued a regional rainfall advisory at 5:00 AM on August 25, 2026, warning that the Southwest Monsoon, locally known as Habagat, is bringing light to heavy rains across Northern Luzon.
La Union communities are currently experiencing these continuous rains, which are expected to persist for the rest of the day. Localized flooding may threaten low-lying areas of coastal towns like San Juan and Bauang, as well as the capital city of San Fernando.
PAGASA said, the monsoon rains are currently affecting several areas in the region:
- La Union and Benguet
- Pangasinan (including Lingayen, Dagupan City, and Alaminos)
- Ilocos Sur (including Vigan City, Tagudin, and San Juan)
- Ilocos Norte (including Laoag City and Badoc)
- Abra and Batanes
PAGASA continues to monitor weather disturbances outside the country’s borders:
- Typhoon Saudel (formerly Obet) is located 1,180 kilometers east-northeast of Extreme Northern Luzon, packing maximum sustained winds of 150 km/h and gusts up to 185 km/h.
- Tropical Depression Atsani is moving northward at 30 km/h, positioned 1,760 kilometers east of Northern Luzon with maximum sustained winds of 55 km/h.
- Southwest Monsoon (Habagat) remains the primary weather driver, causing cloudy skies and scattered rain showers across the western seaboard of Luzon.
