Southwest Monsoon Brings Rain, Storms Across Luzon
SW Monsoon persist to bring rain and thunderstorms across La Union and the Ilocos Region

The Southwest Monsoon (Habagat) still brings cloudy skies, rain showers and thunderstorms across Northern Luzon on Wednesday, August 12, with moderate to strong southwest winds and temperatures reaching 26°C to 32°C. PAGASA issued the rainfall advisory at 5 a.m. and says the rains could affect communities within the next two to three hours.
The forecast covers La Union and has identified 10 areas where light to moderate rain is expected:
- Agoo, Aringay, Caba, Santo Tomas and Tubao
- Bauang, Bagulin, San Fernando, San Juan and San Gabriel
Rain is continuously affecting Pugo, Rosario, Naguilian and Burgos, and the conditions could continue for two to three hours and spread to nearby areas.
PAGASA says a tropical depression outside the Philippine Area of Responsibility was located 1,990 kilometers east of extreme Northern Luzon as of 3 a.m. It has maximum sustained winds of 55 kilometers per hour, gustiness of up to 70 kph, and was moving east-northeastward at 30 kph.
For northern and western Luzon, including areas facing the West Philippine Sea, winds are expected to be moderate to strong from the southwest. Coastal waters will be moderate to rough, with waves reaching 2.1 to 3.1 meters.
Other parts of Luzon may experience light to moderate southwest winds and slight to moderate seas, with waves measuring 1.2 to 1.8 meters. Visayas and Mindanao will have light to moderate south to southwest winds and waves from 0.6 to 1.8 meters.
