PAGASA issues rainfall advisory for several La Union towns due to the Southwest Monsoon.

The southwest monsoon continues to affect Luzon on Tuesday, August 11, bringing varied rainfall conditions across the island while Tropical Storm Peilou remains outside the Philippine Area of Responsibility, PAGASA said.

PAGASA issued Rainfall Advisory No. 23 at 5:00 AM on August 11, 2026, warning of light to moderate rains driven by the Southwest Monsoon across Northern Luzon over a two to three-hour window.

Precipitation caused by the Southwest Monsoon is actively affecting multiple local communities. Weather monitoring indicates that ongoing rains are persisting in seven municipalities:

  • Bacnotan
  • Balaoan
  • Bangar
  • Luna
  • San Gabriel
  • Santol
  • Sudipen

Rainfall will also cover additional areas in La Union within the next two to three hours, specifically affecting Aringay, Bagulin, Burgos, Naguilian, San Juan, and the City of San Fernando.

Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Offices in all municipalities are urged to remain vigilant against potential natural hazards. Authorities highlighted specific risks for communities near mountain slopes and waterways, including:

  • Landslides
  • Mudslides
  • Rockslides
  • Flash floods

Coastal conditions along the western seaboard, including the shores of San Juan, Bauang, and San Fernando City, will experience rougher seas.

  • Northern and western sections of Luzon: Moderate to strong southwest winds causing moderate to rough coastal waters ranging from 2.1 to 3.5 meters high.
  • Rest of Luzon: Light to moderate southwest winds with slight to moderate waves reaching 1.2 to 2.5 meters.
  • Visayas and Mindanao: Light to moderate winds producing wave heights between 0.6 and 1.8 meters.

Farther south, heavier monsoon weather will bring occasional rains to Zambales, Bataan, and Occidental Mindoro. Meanwhile, Metro Manila, Pangasinan, Benguet, and central Luzon provinces will experience scattered rains and thunderstorms throughout the day.

At 3:00 AM today, Tropical Storm Peilou was tracked 3,355 kilometers east of extreme Northern Luzon, carrying maximum sustained winds of 85 km/h near the center and gusts up to 105 km/h while moving east-northeastward at 25 km/h.
