Heavy monsoon rains bring risks of flash floods and rough coastal waters to La Union.

The southwest monsoon is bringing widespread rainfall across Luzon and Visayas as of August 8, 2026, while Typhoon Dolphin continues to move southwestward outside the Philippine Area of Responsibility, PAGASA reports. The HABAGAT is causing widespread rainfall and hazardous coastal conditions across multiple regions. PAGASA issued Heavy Rainfall Warning No. 6, keeping a yellow warning in effect for Benguet due to continuous risks of flooding and landslides in vulnerable areas.

In La Union and the wider Ilocos Region, the monsoon will bring occasional moderate to heavy rainfall throughout the day. Local authorities advise residents in low-lying barangays and mountainous areas to stay vigilant against potential flash floods and landslides.

Coastal communities along La Union’s western seaboard face severe sea conditions driven by moderate to strong southwest winds. Fisherfolk and small seacraft operators are urged to exercise caution as wave heights are expected to reach between 1.5 and 3.4 meters.

In La Union, weather conditions are affecting key municipalities across the province:

  • Active rainfall areas: City of San Fernando and Bauang, where rain conditions are expected to persist over the next two to three hours.
  • Expected rainfall areas: Agoo, Aringay, Bacnotan, Bagulin, Balaoan, Bangar, Burgos, Caba, Luna, Naguilian, Pugo, Rosario, San Gabriel, San Juan, Santo Tomas, Santol, Sudipen, and Tubao within the next two to three hours.
  • Coastal conditions: Strong southwest winds producing moderate to rough seas along the western coastline.

Typhoon Dolphin was last tracked 810 kilometers northeast of extreme Northern Luzon, packing maximum sustained winds of 155 km/h near its center and gusts reaching 190 km/h while moving southwestward at 15 km/h.
