Low Pressure Area Off SE Luzon Brings Rains Across Country
La Union faces isolated rainshowers as LPA trough triggers weather disturbances

PAGASA reports a Low Pressure Area (LPA) was tracked 960 kilometers east of Southeastern Luzon at 3:00 AM today, August 1, 2026, driving unsettled weather conditions across multiple regions of the country.
The weather system’s extended cloud band, or trough, is directly affecting central and eastern sections of the archipelago. PAGASA’s meteorologists warned that continuous moderate to heavy rainfall in those zones could trigger flash floods or landslides in low-lying communities and slope hazard areas.
For La Union and surrounding provinces in Northern Luzon, localized thunderstorms will bring partly cloudy to cloudy skies accompanied by brief rainshowers. DRRMC offices in coastal municipalities such as San Fernando, San Juan, and Bauang advise residents and outdoor workers to stay alert for sudden heavy downpours that could cause localized street flooding.
PAGASA outlined the specific weather outlook across affected regions:
- Bicol Region, Eastern Visayas, Central Visayas, Quezon, and Marinduque: Cloudy skies with scattered rains and thunderstorms caused by the trough of the LPA.
- Metro Manila and the Rest of the Country (including La Union): Partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rainshowers or thunderstorms due to localized thunderstorm activity.
- Luzon and Visayas Coastal Waters: Light to moderate winds blowing from the northeast to northwest, with sea wave heights ranging from 0.6 to 1.2 meters.
- Mindanao Coastal Waters: Light to moderate winds coming from the south to southwest, generating waves between 0.6 to 1.8 meters.
Temperature extremes recorded at the Science Garden station in Quezon City reached a maximum of 32.1 °C at 2:00 PM yesterday and a minimum of 25.2 °C at 5:00 AM. Relative humidity fluctuated between 91 percent in the early morning and 63 percent during the warmest part of the afternoon.
PAGASA continues to track the LPA at coordinates 14.8°N, 130.6°E as it maintains its position off the eastern coast of Luzon.
