Southwest Monsoon Brings Rains Across Luzon Regions

PAGASA says, the Southwest Monsoon is continuously affecting Luzon on today, bringing cloudy skies with scattered rains and thunderstorms to several regions across the island.

The weather bureau reported that the monsoon system will bring moderate to heavy rainfall that may trigger flash floods or landslides in low-lying and mountainous areas. The affected areas include:

• Ilocos Region (including La Union)
• Cordillera Administrative Region
• Cagayan Valley
• Metro Manila
• MIMAROPA
• Provinces of Zambales, Bataan, Bulacan, Cavite, Laguna, and Batangas

Coastal waters along the western section of Luzon, including coastal communities in La Union, like Agoo, Aringay, Caba, Bauang, San Fernando, San Juan, Bacnotan, Balaoan, Luna and Bangar are expected to experience moderate seas with wave heights ranging from 1.5 to 2.5 meters. Winds in these areas will blow from the southwest to south at moderate speeds.

Additionally, weather monitors tracked Tropical Depression Kiyapo outside the Philippine Area of Responsibility. As of 3:00 AM, the tropical cyclone was located 1,015 kilometers west-northwest of extreme Northern Luzon. It carries maximum sustained winds of 55 km/h near the center and gusts of up to 90 km/h, moving north-northwestward at 20 km/h.

The rest of Luzon, Visayas, and Mindanao will experience partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rainshowers or thunderstorms caused by localized weather systems.
