Southwest Monsoon Brings Rains Across Luzon and Visayas

PAGASA says, the Southwest Monsoon is bringing widespread rains and thunderstorms across Luzon and western Visayas on July 26, 2026, while Typhoon Kiyapo continues moving northwestward outside the Philippine Area of Responsibility.

In La Union and across the broader Ilocos Region, residents can expect cloudy skies with scattered rains and thunderstorms throughout the day. Weather forecasters warned that moderate to occasionally heavy rainfall may trigger flash floods or landslides in low-lying and mountainous areas.

Meanwhile, Typhoon Kiyapo was tracked 745 kilometers west-northwest of Itbayat, Batanes, carrying maximum sustained winds of 140 kilometers per hour near the center and gusts reaching up to 195 kilometers per hour. Coastal waters along La Union and the rest of Luzon will experience light to moderate southwest to south winds, resulting in slight to moderate seas with wave heights between 0.6 and 2.1 meters.

Specific regional forecasts released by state meteorologists include:

• Pangasinan and Zambales: Occasional monsoon rains with potential flash floods or landslides due to moderate to heavy rainfall.
• Metro Manila, rest of Luzon, Aklan, and Antique: Cloudy skies with scattered rains and thunderstorms.
• Rest of the country: Partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rainshowers or thunderstorms caused by localized weather systems.
