Southwest Monsoon to Bring Scattered Rains Across Luzon
La Union coastal towns including San Fernando and San Juan brace for isolated thunderstorms

PAGASA reports in its weather bulletin issued at 4:00 AM on July 20, 2026, the Southwest Monsoon is currently affecting the western sections of Luzon and Visayas, bringing partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rainshowers or thunderstorms. The weather system threatens multiple regions with potential flash floods and landslides during severe thunderstorms.
In La Union, coastal municipalities such as San Fernando, San Juan, and Bauang are expected to experience these localized weather disturbances. Local disaster risk reduction offices are advised to monitor low-lying areas for sudden heavy downpours.
The weather bureau also reported the following conditions affecting the province’s coastal areas including Agoo, Bauang, San Fernando, San Juan and Bacnotan:
- Winds will blow from the southwest to west at light to moderate speeds.
- Coastal waters along the western seaboard of Luzon will remain slight to moderate, with wave heights ranging from 0.6 to 1.8 meters.
- Severe thunderstorms may trigger sudden flash floods or landslides in vulnerable areas.
Residents in low-lying and mountainous areas are advised to take precautionary measures against hazards associated with severe thunderstorms. PAGASA continues to monitor the monsoon’s movement and will issue updates as conditions develop.
