Southwest Monsoon to Bring Rains Over Western Luzon
La Union braces for scattered rains and potential flash floods as the habagat strengthens.

According to PAGASA in its weather forecast issued at 4:00 AM on July 19, 2026, the Southwest Monsoon is currently affecting the western sections of Northern and Central Luzon, bringing cloudy skies, scattered rains, and thunderstorms to the region. This weather system is expected to persist over the next 24 hours, posing risks of flash floods and landslides in low-lying and mountainous areas.
Residents in La Union and neighboring provinces in the Ilocos Region are advised to take precautionary measures against moderate to heavy rainfall. Local disaster risk reduction offices are monitoring vulnerable areas for potential soil instability and flooding.
Coastal waters across the country, including the seaboards of La Union, will experience light to moderate winds blowing from the south to southwest. Sea conditions will remain slight to moderate, requiring caution for small seacraft.
The weather agency highlighted the following details for the affected areas:
- Affected Areas: The Ilocos Region, Zambales, and Bataan will experience cloudy skies with scattered rains.
- Safety Hazards: Moderate to heavy rains may trigger flash floods or landslides in high-risk areas.
- Coastal Conditions: Coastal waters will have wave heights of 0.6 to 1.8 meters with light to moderate winds.
Meanwhile, the rest of the country, including Metro Manila, will experience partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rainshowers due to localized thunderstorms. PAGASA urges the public to monitor daily weather updates and coordinate with local government units for safety advisories.
