Isolated Thunderstorms to Bring Rain Across the Country

According to PAGASA in its 4:00 AM forecast on July 16, 2026, localized thunderstorms will bring partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rainshowers across Metro Manila and the rest of the country. The state weather bureau warned that these severe thunderstorms may trigger sudden flash floods or landslides in vulnerable areas.

In La Union, it looks like a fair and clear day based on satellite images. Still, coastal and farming communities in San Fernando City, San Juan, Bacnotan and Bauang are advised to monitor local weather conditions. While the Southwest Monsoon is currently affecting only extreme Northern Luzon, localized thunderstorms remain the primary driver of rain in the Ilocos Region.

The weather bureau reported that coastal waters across the country, including the seaboards of La Union, will remain light to moderate. Wave heights are expected to range from 0.6 to 2.1 meters, accompanied by light to moderate winds blowing from the south to southwest.

Residents in low-lying and mountainous areas of the province should prepare for the following potential hazards during severe thunderstorms:

• Sudden flash floods in urban and low-lying areas
• Landslides in hilly or mountainous terrain
• Brief moderate to heavy rainfall during localized storms
