Southwest Monsoon Brings Rains and Rough Seas to Northern Luzon
La Union residents are advised to be aware of potential flash floods and landslides due to Habagat rains

According to PAGASA, the Southwest Monsoon is bringing light to moderate rains and moderate to strong winds across several provinces in Northern Luzon on the evening of July 12, 2026. The weather bureau issued a rainfall advisory at 8:00 PM warning of immediate precipitation and rough coastal conditions affecting the region over the next few hours.
In La Union, the weather system is expected to deliver continuous light to moderate rainfall. Local disaster risk reduction offices are monitoring the situation as the rains pose risks of flash floods and landslides, particularly along mountain slopes.
The weather bureau also reported that coastal waters off La Union and the rest of the Ilocos Region will experience moderate to rough conditions. Southwest winds are blowing at moderate to strong speeds, which may affect local maritime activities and small seacraft.
Aside from La Union, several other provinces in Northern Luzon are experiencing varying levels of rainfall:
- Pangasinan, Benguet, and Nueva Vizcaya are experiencing light to moderate, and at times heavy, rains.
- Ilocos Sur, Ilocos Norte, and Abra are expected to receive light to moderate rains within the next two to three hours.
- Ifugao, Quirino, Mountain Province, and Aurora are also under rainfall advisories.
PAGASA advises residents in low-lying areas and mountainous slopes to take precautionary measures against potential hazards. The next weather update is scheduled for release at 11:00 PM.
