Northern Luzon Faces Isolated Thunderstorms and Light Winds

According to PAGASA in its regional forecast issued at 5:00 PM on July 5, 2026, Northern Luzon will experience partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rainshowers or thunderstorms. The regional weather system is bringing light to moderate winds and slight to moderate coastal waters across the area over the next 24 hours.

In La Union, temperatures are expected to range between 26°C and 32°C, with winds blowing from the east to southeast. The province’s coastal areas will experience slight to moderate sea conditions, which generally allow for safe maritime activities in the coastal areas of San Fernando, Bauang and Bacnotan though sudden local thunderstorms may cause brief disruptions.

The extended weather outlook for the province indicates that warm weather will persist through the week, with maximum temperatures reaching 33°C until Thursday. Winds are expected to shift, blowing from the west and northwest by Monday while maintaining a light to moderate strength.

While La Union remains free of severe weather warnings, PAGASA issued active thunderstorm advisories for neighboring provinces in the Ilocos Region. The state weather bureau warned of moderate to heavy rains, lightning, and strong winds in parts of Ilocos Sur, Ilocos Norte, and Pangasinan.

Residents in the affected mountainous areas of the region are advised to monitor local conditions due to potential hazards. These hazards include:

• Flash floods in low-lying areas like the coastal areas of San Fernando and San Juan
• Landslides and mudslides along mountain slopes in areas like Burgos and San Gabriel
• Rockslides in hilly terrains like Barangay Lacong in San Gabriel
