PAGASA Issues Farm Weather Advisory Amid Monsoon and Storm Trough

According to PAGASA, a combination of the southwest monsoon, easterlies, and the extension of a tropical depression outside the country’s territory will bring scattered rains and thunderstorms across the Philippines from June 19 to June 22, 2026, prompting critical safety advisories for the agricultural sector.

The state weather bureau reported that soil moisture levels have reached “wet” status in several areas, including Ilocos Sur, Benguet, Nueva Ecija, Bataan, Zambales, Capiz, Bukidnon, and Davao del Norte. Meanwhile, “moist” soil conditions are present in La Union, Ilocos Norte, Baguio, Occidental Mindoro, Eastern Samar, North Cotabato, and Lanao del Sur, while the rest of the country remains dry.

From June 20 to June 21, the extension of the tropical cyclone outside the Philippine Area of Responsibility will bring scattered rains to Eastern Visayas, Caraga, and the Davao Region. Concurrently, the southwest monsoon (habagat) will trigger rains over the rest of Mindanao, Negros Island Region, and Palawan, while the rest of Luzon will experience partly cloudy skies with localized thunderstorms.

To minimize agricultural losses, PAGASA advises farmers in affected regions to immediately clear and maintain irrigation canals, dikes, and drainage systems to prevent flooding. Agricultural workers are also urged to strengthen plant supports like stakes and trellises, harvest mature crops early, and store excess water in tanks or drums for future dry periods.
