PAGASA warns of potential landslides and flash floods in several La Union towns

PAGASA issued a regional rainfall advisory at 5:00 AM on September 5, 2026, warning of light to heavy rains across Northern Luzon due to the southwest monsoon.

In La Union, the advisory highlights specific municipalities currently experiencing or expecting heavy downpours. Heavy rains are already falling in the upland and coastal towns of Bagulin, Burgos, Naguilian, Rosario, San Gabriel, and Santo Tomas.

Several other areas are expected to experience rain throughout the day, including:

  • City of San Fernando
  • Agoo, Aringay, Caba, and Tubao
  • Bacnotan, Balaoan, Bangar, Luna, and San Juan
  • Bauang, Pugo, Santol, and Sudipen

Due to the prolonged rainfall, residents living near mountain slopes face elevated risks of landslides, mudslides, and rockslides. Coastal areas are also experiencing moderate to rough sea conditions, with southwest winds blowing at moderate speeds.

PAGASA released the following forecast details:

  • Wind Speed: Light to moderate, blowing from the southwest to west.
  • Sea Conditions: Slight to moderate coastal waters.
  • Wave Heights: Heights will range from 0.6 to 2.5 meters.
