3 Weather Disturbances + Habagat Around Philippines

PAGASA announced in a weather advisory at 5:00 AM on September 1, 2026, that the Habagat is bringing light to moderate rains across Northern Luzon.

Three weather systems are also being monitored outside the Philippine Area of Responsibility:

  • Tropical Depression Pilandok, located 1,060 kilometers east of extreme northern Luzon, moving west-northwestward with maximum winds of 55 kilometers per hour and gusts of up to 70 kilometers per hour.
  • Tropical Storm Saudel (formerly Obet), located 985 kilometers west of extreme northern Luzon, carrying winds of 65 kilometers per hour and gusts of up to 80 kilometers per hour.
  • An unnamed tropical depression situated 645 kilometers west-northwest of Itbayat, Batanes, with winds of 45 kilometers per hour and gusts of up to 60 kilometers per hour.

In La Union, the weather system has already triggered precipitation in several areas, while other parts of the province prepare for incoming rainfall. Localized impacts are divided across the province:

  • Current Rainfall: Persistent rains are currently affecting Bacnotan, Balaoan, Bangar, Bauang, Luna, the City of San Fernando, San Juan, and Sudipen.
  • Incoming Rainfall: Light to moderate rains are expected to begin within the next two to three hours in Agoo, Aringay, Bagulin, Burgos, Caba, Naguilian, Pugo, Rosario, Santo Tomas, Santol, Tubao, and San Gabriel.

Coastal conditions remain hazardous, with strong southwest winds creating rough to very rough seas. Temperatures in the region are hovering between 25°C and 29°C.

Because of the prolonged rainfall, PAGASA warned residents living near mountain slopes to stay alert for potential landslides, mudslides, and rockslides.
