La Union placed under yellow warning as Habagat brings risk of floods and landslides

PAGASA issued a heavy rainfall warning at 5:00 AM on August 31, 2026, as the Habagat, continues to bring moderate to intense rains across several provinces in Northern Luzon. Tropical Depression Pilandok remains almost stationary at 1,120 kilometers east of Extreme Northern Luzon, carrying maximum sustained winds of 55 kilometers per hour.

PAGASA placed La Union under a Yellow Warning level. This alert indicates that flooding is highly possible in low-lying communities, while landslides threaten mountainous terrains.

Coastal areas in the province are also experiencing rough sea conditions driven by moderate to strong southwest winds. Temperatures in La Union are expected to hover between 24°C and 28°C throughout the day.

Other parts of Northern Luzon are under varying alert levels due to the persistent monsoon rains:

  • Orange Warning (Flooding and landslides are threatening): Ilocos Sur, Ilocos Norte, and Abra.
  • Yellow Warning (Flooding and landslides are possible): La Union, Pangasinan, Benguet, Apayao, and select areas in Mountain Province, Kalinga, and Cagayan.
