Heavy Monsoon Rains Trigger Northern Luzon Weather Warnings

PAGASA warns of potential floods and landslides across La Union towns as Habagat strengthens.

PAGASA issued a heavy rainfall warning at 5:00 AM on August 29, 2026, due to the Southwest Monsoon, locally known as Habagat, which is bringing moderate to heavy rains and risking floods and landslides across several provinces in Northern Luzon.

A low pressure area was spotted 520 kilometers north-northeast of Itbayat, Batanes. This weather system is triggering widespread rains. It was last tracked at coordinates 24.8°N, 124.4°E as of 3:00 AM.

La Union faces varying levels of rainfall that threaten low-lying and mountainous areas. Other nearby provinces, including Ilocos Sur, Benguet, Abra, and Mountain Province, are also experiencing light to heavy rainfall. Pangasinan remains under a Yellow Warning for potential flooding

Persistent rains are currently affecting several parts of La Union, including:

  • City of San Fernando
  • Agoo, Aringay, Bauang, Burgos, Caba, Naguilian, Pugo, Rosario, Santo Tomas, and Tubao
  • Bacnotan, Bagulin, Balaoan, Bangar, Luna, San Gabriel, San Juan, Santol, and Sudipen
