Southwest Monsoon Brings Heavy Rains Across Northern Luzon

La Union gets rainfall advisory. Residents warned of potential flash floods and landslides as Habagat intensifies.

The Southwest Monsoon is expected to bring light to heavy rains across Northern Luzon, including La Union on Wednesday morning, August 19, 2026. PAGASA issued Rainfall Advisory No. 80 at 8:00 AM, warning communities of potential flash floods and landslides within the next three hours. This weather system affects multiple regions, requiring local disaster offices to actively monitor conditions.

The monsoon brings cloudy skies, scattered rains, and thunderstorms to La Union. Local temperatures are projected to range between 24°C and 31°C throughout the day.

Strong winds that blow from the southwest are expected to create moderate to rough coastal conditions along La Union’s beaches and ports. Turbulent waters, maritime activities and small seacraft operations may face disruptions.

PAGASA identified several hazards that threaten vulnerable communities. Residents living near mountain slopes or low-lying areas are advised to prepare for:

  • Landslides and mudslides
  • Rockslides
  • Flash floods

Neighboring areas are also experiencing similar weather conditions. Heavy rains are currently affecting parts of Ilocos Sur, Ilocos Norte, Benguet, and Pangasinan.
