Habagat Triggers Heavy Rainfall Warnings Across Northern Luzon

PAGASA places La Union and nearby provinces under yellow warning for floods and landslides

PAGASA issued a heavy rainfall warning last night August 16, 2026, at 8pm, as the Southwest Monsoon continues to bring moderate to heavy rains across La Union and neighboring provinces. PAGASA placed multiple areas under a yellow warning due to the threat of immediate flooding and landslides in low-lying and mountainous areas.

La Union residents are advised to prepare for cloudy skies with scattered rains and thunderstorms. The province is under a yellow rainfall alert, which means heavy rains could cause localized flooding in low-lying communities and landslides along mountainous slopes. Temperatures in the province are expected to range from 25°C to 30°C.

According to the advisory, the weather system is also affecting neighboring areas in the Ilocos Region and Cordillera. The yellow warning covers:

  • La Union (entire province)
  • Benguet
  • Ilocos Sur
  • Pangasinan (specifically Alaminos City, Agno, Anda, Bani, Bolinao, Burgos, Dasol, Infanta, Mabini, and Sual)

Coastal areas in La Union will experience moderate sea conditions with winds blowing from the southwest at moderate to strong speeds. Local disaster risk reduction and management offices have been advised to continuously monitor the weather and secure coastal and upland communities. Meanwhile, light to moderate rains are also expected to persist in nearby provinces, including Ilocos Norte and parts of Abra.
