Monsoon Relief Operations Continue in Ilocos Sur

National and local agencies deliver food, hygiene kits, and shelter aid to affected towns

National agencies and local government units are delivering food, hygiene supplies, and shelter assistance to 21,102 individuals across 268 barangays in Ilocos Sur as of August 13, 2026, to help communities recover from severe flooding caused by the southwest monsoon, the PIA reports.

The provincial government of Ilocos Sur has provided more than P1.1 million worth of aid to affected families in Vigan City and the municipalities of San Juan, Santo Domingo, San Ildefonso, San Vicente, Bantay, Caoayan, and Santa.

In Vigan City, relief reached 59 households in the low-lying area of Barangay San Julian Norte who evacuated due to rising floodwaters. Barangay Captain Hipolito Palo said, “We are very thankful to the city government of Vigan for providing food packs and hot meals, especially to families in the lower portion of our barangay.”

Barangay health worker Sally Pasion noted that the continuous rains stopped residents from working. Pasion said, “We had to stay home and depend on whatever food we had. Since the rain continued, we could not go out to work, so the assistance helped provide food for our families.”

Other government relief efforts include:

  • The provincial government distributed 405 family food packs worth P506,250 and 131 hygiene kits worth P631,178.96.
  • The local government of Magsingal handed out building materials to families with damaged homes.
  • The Office of Civil Defense (OCD) provided additional food packs, hygiene kits, and shelter repair kits.

The Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) Field Office 1 continues its ongoing distribution of 8,199 food and non-food items to Candon City and 15 other municipalities.
