Ilocos Norte bridge projects secure additional funding under national finish-first policy

The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) is fast-tracking ongoing infrastructure projects nationwide under a government “finish first” policy, prioritizing underfunded and stalled bridge construction in Piddig, Ilocos Norte, during an inspection on August 7, 2026, to improve local travel and trade, the PIA reports.

DPWH Secretary Vince Dizon stated that the directive from President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. ensures that active, stalled, or underfunded projects receive priority funding before new public works begin.

“The ‘finish the unfinished’ policy introduced by our President is very important because it shows that, first of all, as the President said, when you start something, you must finish it first,” Dizon said.

During his inspection of the Loing-Mangitayag Bridge, Dizon highlighted several key financial and operational targets for local developments:

  • Loing-Mangitayag Bridge: Received an initial P30-million allocation for Phase 1 of its 61-meter span.
  • Additional Funding: An added P85 million is set aside to complete the structure alongside the Cabaroan-Libnaoan Bridge and Estancia Bridge.
  • Barangay Coverage: The bridges connect Barangay Loing with neighboring communities in Bimmanga, Mangitayag, and Tonoton.

Ilocos Norte First District Representative Ferdinand Alexander “Sandro” Marcos welcomed the funding allocation for the town.

“We are grateful to the national government for committing to finish the three bridges being constructed here in Piddig. This is a huge help to the First District,” Marcos said.

Once finished, the bridges will allow agricultural workers to cross safely and ship farm produce even during river overflows. Marcos added that the administration also plans to complete the Patapat Viaduct before the end of President Marcos Jr.’s term.
