Local Governments Receive Awards for Emergency Response Work

PNA reported that five local government units earned cash incentives and specialized capacity-building training for exemplary disaster risk reduction and emergency response performance. The provincial government recognized the municipalities following a comprehensive assessment of local emergency response systems and disaster management practices.

Selection criteria focused on sustainable and community-focused disaster management initiatives across the province. “The evaluation included a desk review of the submitted Project Summary Briefs and supporting documents, on-site validation, and a final deliberation,” the PGLU said in a statement on Monday.

The official evaluation highlighted local projects that effectively tackle disaster risks, encourage resident participation, and deliver measurable results capable of being adopted by other communities.

The top-performing local government units in La Union received major support packages:

• San Fernando City secured the Gold Award, receiving PHP 1 million worth of structural projects, capacity-building programs, or emergency equipment.
• Naguilian earned the Silver Award, taking home PHP 750,000 worth of funding and projects.
• Bacnotan placed third as the Bronze Awardee, receiving PHP 500,000.

Specialized skills training packages were awarded to expand local rescue capabilities in specific environments. “To further strengthen local capacities for disasters, Balaoan received the Basic Water Rescue Training Package, while Burgos received the High-Angle Search and Rescue Training Package,” the provincial government said.

Additionally, the provincial government presented Plaques of Appreciation to all participating towns across La Union to recognize their shared commitment toward strengthening provincial disaster readiness.
