According to PGLU, local artists, students, and tourism officers gathered for the sixth annual tourism summit on September 25, 2026, to discuss digital innovation and sustainable practices. Held at a convention center in San Fernando, the event marked the culmination of Tourism Month by showcasing cultural traditions through both traditional and digital platforms.

During the event, Governor Mario Ortega shared plans for future tourism infrastructure, including an upcoming Tourism Center in San Juan equipped with audiovisual rooms, immediate medical support for visitors, and a comprehensive safety policy. Supporting these plans, Provincial Administrator and OIC-LUPTO Dr. Ramon B. Torres highlighted the integration of artificial intelligence and digital tools to create sustainable opportunities that protect local heritage.

Speakers at the summit emphasized the balance between technology and heritage. University of the Philippines Diliman Dr. Karminn C. D. Daytec Yañgot spoke on cultural tourism, reminding the audience, “You are bearers of your own culture.”

Addressing digital ecosystems, Nestor “Next” Layderos, CEO of ANCI Prime Sales & Marketing Corporation, explained how digital tools can empower local communities. Layderos remarked, “We use digitalization to feel more La Union,” while sharing strategies to help visitors better experience the province.

The summit also featured the La Union Tourism Quiz Blitz, which tested participants on local tourism spots, industry regulations, and provincial policies.
