Tropical Storm Maymay Brings Stormy Weather Through The Night

PAGASA says, Tropical Storm “MAYMAY” (Kujira) is bringing stormy weather to several provinces in Northern Luzon, including La Union, as of 4:00 PM on August 5, 2026. The storm’s center was located 155 km west of Sinait, Ilocos Sur, with maximum sustained winds of 75 km/h near the center and gustiness up to 90 km/h. It is moving north-northeastward at 10 km/h.

PAGASA warned that La Union, along with Ilocos Norte, Ilocos Sur, Benguet, Mountain Province, Abra, Kalinga, and Ifugao, will experience stormy conditions. Moderate to heavy with at times intense rains are expected, raising the risk of flash floods or landslides. Strong to gale-force winds also pose a significant threat to life and property in these areas.

For La Union, residents should brace for rough seas and powerful winds, especially in coastal communities. The storm’s slow movement means hazardous weather may persist. Nearby provinces like Cagayan, Isabela, and Pangasinan will see rains with gusty winds, while the Southwest Monsoon is bringing occasional rains to Metro Manila, Cavite, Batangas, and parts of Mindoro.

PAGASA also noted that Typhoon Dolphin remains outside the Philippine Area of Responsibility, located 1,660 km east northeast of extreme Northern Luzon with winds of 155 km/h. It is moving west northwestward and has no direct effect on the country.

Moderate to strong winds and moderate to rough seas (1.2 to 3.0 meters) are forecast for the western seaboard of Luzon, including La Union’s coastline. PAGASA advises the public to monitor updates and take precautionary measures against flooding and landslides.
