Low Pressure Area Triggers Heavy Rainfall Warning Across Northern Luzon

PAGASA issues a yellow weather warning for San Fernando City and 12 La Union towns due to flood risks.

PAGASA reports, a low pressure area brought continuous rains and thunderstorms across Northern Luzon on Aug. 4, prompting official weather advisories for multiple provinces. They have warned that persistent rainfall poses immediate risks of severe flooding and landslides in low-lying areas and along steep mountain slopes.

The weather agency placed 13 local government units in La Union under a Yellow Heavy Rainfall Warning in its 5:00 AM bulletin. The affected areas include the provincial capital, City of San Fernando, alongside the towns of Agoo, Aringay, Bacnotan, Bagulin, Bauang, Burgos, Caba, Naguilian, Pugo, San Gabriel, San Juan, and Tubao.

Rainfall of varying intensity is currently affecting the broader region:

  • Yellow Warning Alert: Covers Baguio City and the Benguet municipalities of La Trinidad, Kapangan, Sablan, Tuba, and Tublay, where localized flooding and slope collapse remain major hazards.
  • Moderate to Heavy Rainfall: Affecting the La Union towns of Balaoan, Bangar, Luna, Rosario, Santo Tomas, Santol, and Sudipen, as well as parts of Benguet, Ilocos Norte, Ifugao, Pangasinan, Abra, Ilocos Sur, Isabela, Mountain Province, Apayao, and Cagayan.
  • Light to Moderate Rainfall: Persisting across designated sections of Ilocos Norte, Ifugao, Pangasinan, Abra, Ilocos Sur, Nueva Vizcaya, Quirino, Isabela, Kalinga, Apayao, and Cagayan.

Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Offices across affected localities have been advised to maintain continuous weather monitoring. PAGASA scheduled its subsequent heavy rainfall warning advisory for 11:00 AM on Aug. 4.
