Heavy Rains Cause Localized Flooding and Force Evacuations | Bangar

Disaster officials in Bangar, La Union shelter 22 families following heavy overnight rains.

Local disaster officials in Bangar activated emergency response operations and evacuated residents after heavy overnight rains triggered localized flooding on Aug. 6, the PIA said. The Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (MDRRMO) reported that 51 families, or 171 individuals, were affected by the severe weather.

A total of 22 families (66 individuals) sought temporary shelter in local evacuation centers, with 18 families staying at the town’s main facility and four families accommodated in barangay-level centers. The displaced residents were evacuated from six barangays across Bangar:

Agdeppa
Bangar East
General Terrero
General Prim West
Mindoro
Paratong Norte

Floodwaters reached up to 2.5 feet in Agdeppa, Cadapli, and Alzate, with water entering a residence in Cadapli by three to four inches. MDRRMO officials confirmed that floodwaters in Agdeppa and Cadapli have subsided, while water levels in Barangay Alzate continue to recede.

Camp managers conducted health assessments and registered evacuees while local authorities maintained continuous monitoring of river and coastal conditions. Assistant Public Information Officer John Robert Morden confirmed the municipality’s readiness for further arrivals if conditions worsen.

“Under our setup, we are fully prepared to receive new displaced persons at any time. If new evacuees arrive, we will assess, re-register, and conduct health checks on them before assigning their rooms,” Morden said.

The Bangar LGU retained close coordination with grassroots officials monitoring flood conditions to allow real time reports and provide immediate response.

This quick response procedure, clearly shows the LGU efforts to drastically improve preparedness in calamities like this which is aligned with the national government’s program of reducing disaster risk and climate resilience.

To support immediate relief operations, the Provincial Government of La Union delivered an initial 146 family food packs, with four additional packs scheduled to complete the full allocation for affected households.
