Disaster Response Teams Preposition Supplies Ahead of Monsoon Rains

Local emergency authorities have prepositioned essential relief supplies and rescue watercraft to prepare for potential heavy rainfall driven by two low-pressure areas and the southwest monsoon (habagat), reported the PIA.

In the town of Bangar, La Union, the Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (MDRRMO) established emergency stockpiles and deployed monitoring crews across vulnerable communities to ensure rapid response capabilities.

To support affected families during severe weather, local, provincial, and national agencies have placed food, water, and sanitation supplies ready for distribution:

• 499 sacks of five-kilogram rice, 20 boxes of corned beef, 20 boxes of tuna, and 8 boxes of coffee secured directly by the municipal government.
• 75 family kits, 25 food packs, 10 hygiene kits, and 74 bottles of water placed on standby by the Provincial Government of La Union.
• 57 hygiene buckets and 80 boxes of Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) hygiene kits provided by the Department of Health (DOH).

For emergency response and water rescues, the MDRRMO has prepared two raft boats and one rubber boat.

Disaster response teams have conducted continuous water-level monitoring since August 3, focusing on key waterways and shoreline areas:

• Amburayan River
• Borobor River
• Busilac River
• Coastal areas of Bangar

Municipal officials have alerted high-risk barangays to prepare for potential flash flooding and monsoon hazards. Disaster management personnel confirmed that no residents have been advised to evacuate as of August 4, though response teams remain active along major rivers.
